Admired

As I have suspected for quite some time, there is a little red haired girl in Tate's class that 'regards him with wonder.' When he arrived at school yesterday morning, he found a gift bag on his desk with this in it:

as well as this note:

Lake told him that if he kept the toy, he had to put a check mark in the 'yes' box. Tate wants to keep the toy and be her friend. However, I noticed that after he left for school this morning, the note is still in the kitchen and both boxes are empty.

Best friends

Lake and his best friend since they were both four years old!

Didn't quite make it to bed

This is what happens when you don't get your three year old daughter to bed at a proper time.

They're back!

My girls are (nearly) back to normal! Oh, how I have missed them!

No fever in the house today.

Appetites are better.

They are giggling and playing with each other.

They both are still coughing but not nearly as much as the last few days.

Hallelujah!

Nothing new

I have nothing new to post about.

Why?

Because my girls are still sick.

Daisy coughed all night last night. Just as she would fall asleep, she would wake herself with coughing. Soon after the coughing would start, she would start crying and saying, "I don't want to cough. I don't like to cough."

The doctor is treating Rosie for pneumonia. If she's not better tomorrow, she'll need to go back to the doctor. Her antibiotics were switched from amoxicillin to augmentin. The augmentin is rough on her tummy. The first night she couldn't keep it down. She did a little better with it yesterday and then not so good today. She has now missed two weeks of school. Granted, it's just preschool but she misses her friends.

If you're keeping up, this is the eleventh day that there has been either flu, fever or vomiting in our house. Lake and I are the only ones that haven't been sick.

In case you wanted to know

A 4 ounce bottle of Motrin will last approximately three days when two children have fevers in the 102 degree range.

The girls are still with fever. They are both coughing. Daisy is coughing so much that she vomits (sorry to be gross!) Tate is still coughing. John Henry is still coughing and has had some fever even today. Lake has shown no signs of the flu. Yet.

How much longer will this last?

The flu

John Henry was officially diagnosed with influenza type A on Wednesday. I didn't know much about the different types of the flu but evidently this is one of the more contagious types.

So, I wasn't surprised when Daisy and Rosie woke with high fevers today. Both girls have been complaining of head aches and body aches. When Daisy's fever spikes she complains of her eyes hurting.

Oh, it's going to be a long weekend.

Valentine's Day

Oh, where to start.....

Yesterday I took Tate and Rosie to the doctor. Rosie has been coughing for several days and Tate had a fever for three days and then started coughing. Now both are on antibiotics. Neither have been to school all week and both missed the Valentine parties.

So far Daisy and Lake are not sick. John Henry goes to the doctor this afternoon. He's had a fever (102/103) and congestion as well as body aches.

Over the weekend all four kids addressed Valentine cards. This morning when Lake was getting ready for school I reminded him that the plates and snacks and his cards for hte party were in his backpack. I said, "Hmmm, I wonder if you could take Tate's Valentine cards and bag to his teacher." I suspected that he would try to find a way out of taking his stuff but he surprised me by saying, "Sure. Should I ask my teacher first or just take his things before I go to my class?" He even followed this by saying he would try to stop by Tate's class and pick up his Valentine cards before he came home. Tate was very appreciative of this gesture and is now anxiously awaiting his brother's return from school.

Hope all is well at your house on this cold, cold Valentine's Day!

Moisturizer meltdown

Maybe I should say 'lack of' a meltdown.

And I was fulling expecting a meltdown last night over the word 'moisturizer.'

Why?

Well, Tate (six years old) chose 'moisturizer' as one of his spelling words. On Monday I asked him why he picked that word and he said, "Because it has eleven letters."

Great.

So, last night after dinner and baths the boys were doing homework. Lake had to write a story about a farm and include 15 nouns and 15 adjectives in the story. Tate had some extra reading to do for a 'book talk' he has on Monday. Once Tate finished reading, I reminded him that we needed to go over the spelling words. I had been dreading this all day. I was going through the list, calling the words out and he was spelling them with out any problems. I threw 'moisturizer' in about halfway through the list. How did he spell it?

M-O-I-S-T-U-R-I-Z-E-R

Boy, he's good.

Wise

Today is John Henry's mom's birthday. Last night all four kids were making her birthday cards. Well, three were making cards and one (Tate) was making her a snowflake.

Tate needed scissors that would cut through the thicker paper, Lake needed paper and Daisy needed a marker. Of course, they needed these things at the same time. I don't think I said a word - I was processing the requests and trying to gather the last minute items. Let me add this: I was prepared to make cards. On the table I had placed the envelopes, stickers, and crayons. I didn't know that Tate was going to need scissors to make a snowflake. Lake had originally told me that he was going to make his card later. I didn't foresee that Daisy would need markers.

My wise four-year-old Rosie said, "Guys, guys, wait a minute. Did you know that there is only one Mommy and that there are four of us?"

Oh, thank you.

Snow

We finally get snow and I'm too slow with the camera to get a picture. Early this morning (around 1:00am) I was awake, decided to look out the window and discovered our front yard covered in snow. I thought to myself, "What a beautiful picture that will be in the morning when it is light outside."

Yeah, right.

Now it looks like dirty slush because the snow turned into rain.

Oh well. The boys are still excited because school was delayed by an hour and a half.
