Finally, as we near the half mark of the season the boys' won their first baseball game. The score was 12-6. Lake hit two homeruns (for a total of 4 this season) and 5 RBI's. Tate hit a double with 1 RBI.
Some other great highlights of the evening include:
1) Special guests to the game: Tate's teacher from school with her fifteen-year-old daughter and Tate's Sunday night teacher with her family. I was completely shocked to see his school teacher but the fact that she showed up completely changed Tate's mood for the game. He had told me that he was too tired to play. When it was his teams turn to be in the field he walked out slowly with his head down. He turned to look out into the bleachers to see where I was. I waved. Ms. A waved. He had a huge grin, stood very tall and ran to his position. He played an incredible game after that.
I was very touched with the teacher's attendance last night. Her mother died less than two years ago. Her husband left her last year. Her oldest daughter went off to college in the fall. Yet, she tries to attend one game per student in the spring. I already viewed her as a good teacher. Now I see her as a great teacher.
2) Surprise dinner guests: After the game, the boys were very excited (in case you were wondering!) What do you want to do when you are happy? Well, share your joy with friends and family. Lake asked if his best friend (who lives on the other side of town) could go to dinner with us. It was 8:00pm. Most normal people had probably already eaten. I told him that it was too late, maybe another night, etc...
We picked our favorite restaraunt that is two minutes from the house. His best friend and family were there. They have never eaten at this restaurant but decided to give it a try. Lake couldn't have been happier. Oh, and this friend has a younger brother which happens to be Tate's friend. AND there are two older sisters that like to play with the girls.
Yes, yesterday was a good day.

Education update
It has been awhile since I've had a post about school and since there are only 19 school days left, I thought it might be a good time to post an update.
Before you read, know this: I don't write this to be a comparison of the children to each other. I realize they are all different and approach things from different views. Mainly, I just want to have a compilation of the years accomplishments and progressions.
The boys have enjoyed a good year. Both are excelling in all subjects. The schools here are on a nine-week grading period. Lake made one B+ during the first grading period and was quite upset about it. Since then, we have only seen A's on his report card. Tate has brought home all A's for the entire year of first grade (even in spelling with words like glamorous!)
Lake has always had good handwriting. Tate has not. Last year, he felt that if all the letters of the word were on one page, well, then you should be able to figure out what he was trying to write. This year I have seen much improvement in his handwriting.
Math is still the favorite subject for both boys.
Lake is finally learning the joy of finishing a book. I have struggled with him about starting a book only to set it aside to do the same with another book. I completely understand reading more than one book at a time as I do this myself.
Rosie is nearing the completion of her final year of preschool. The biggest struggles have been the separation issue (which she has overcome greatly!) and the peanut issue. I have talked with the teacher and director about this and the school is possibly making steps towards a peanut free school. This won't help me because it isn't something that will happen immediately (if ever) but hopefully will pave the way for another mother trying to protect her child.
Rosie is registered for kindergarten. There are still alot of questions surrounding where she will actually attend kindergarten but that is for another post.
Daisy is still very happy with preschool. I think she will miss it over the summer. It has been good for her. Well, for me, too! She is learning to write her name. Her imagination is amazing. Next year will be an interesting time for the two of us with the others at school full time.
I have made a better effort of reading to the girls. They enjoy it so much that I have a little guilt that I wasn't more diligent in the past in my reading to them.
The school year has flown by. My children are growing too fast.

Milkshake
Lake won a milkshake from Chick-fil-a last night. How? Well, he hit a home run at his baseball game. This home run is what I classify as a 'true' home run. Usually at this age the child may hit the ball and then make it around all the bases because of the ball being overthrown to first and/or other bases. Last night Lake hit the ball to deep right field and was making his way around third base before the ball made it back into the infield.
Oh, the milkshake wasn't my idea. Any player in our league gets a milkshake for hitting a home run during a game.

Easter
Success (finally)
After several tries at the dentist, Daisy finally allowed the dentist to look in her mouth without crying. She even allowed a temporary filling to be applied to the tooth that was chipped two weeks ago!
Now, as promised by Nano, she gets to go shopping at the store of her choice. I asked her today what she wanted to look at while shopping. Her answer: "A pink skirt and a pink shirt. I already have a red skirt. It's in my basket. I need a pink one."
I like a girl that knows what she wants!

Dams and Locks
On Sunday we took a road trip and visited Wheeler Locks and Wilson Dam.

You can't read it from the photo but Daisy's skirt has print on it that says, "It's all me." A very fitting skirt for her mood on this day!

On the way down the trail I stayed behind to get this cute picture. On the way back, I noticed a snake head on the trail. From what I can tell, I was probably standing on it when I took the photo. Given how much I dislike snakes, it still gives me the creeps to think about it.
